Ministry of Health will have US$ 615 million for STD in 2010

Funds from the Ministry of Health intended for prevention and pharmaceutical assistance for patients with AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) will have US$ 51.4 million more than what was expected for this year. In 2009, the budget forecasted for actions of prevention, control, protection, diagnosis, assistance and treatment was of US$ 563,6 million, which leads to an increase of 9%, adding up to a total amount of US$ 615 million.

The largest part of the funds is destined to the distribution of medication. In 2010, almost 69% of the funds must go for the treatment of those who already have some STD. It is included, in that budget, the cost of acquisition, storage, conservation, transportation and distribution of medication for outpatient care and home care.
In that budget, the following actions are also included: surveillance, prevention and control of HIV/Aids and other STDs; financial incentive to States, Federal Capital and municipalities for actions of prevention and qualification and “surveillance, prevention and control of viral hepatitis”.
