Brazil will host UN conference

Brazil will host, in November, the Millennium Development Goals International Conference. The goals were established in year 2000 by 191 countries of the United Nations (UN) and must be achieved until 2015, including improvements in education, health, environment and women rights.

One of the millennium goals is the reduction in infant mortality rate. The countries commit to having this rate reduced in at least two thirds by the year of 2015, in comparison to 1990. According to the WHO, Brazil is one of the few which will achieve the goal before the deadline: in 2012, the country’s rate will be of 14.4 deaths per 1000 born alive (it was 43.2 in 1990).
