Biography

Sam is a seasoned healthcare executive, faculty and consultant with 30 years of experience in healthcare industry. He is a nationally-recognized leader and expert in health IT, healthcare finance, big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and continuous quality improvement, having served the roles of COO, CIO, VP of Analytics, Senior Director, Director of Medical/Healthcare Informatics for healthcare organizations. He is a faculty at UC Irvine Merage School of Business and USC Price School of Public Policy.

He currently is the Chief Information and Innovation Officer for a healthcare startup. He serves or has served many national and regional leadership roles, including Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) National Advisory Council, HFMA National Board of Examiners, HFMA Certification Standard Setting Committee, HFMA National Yerger judge, HFMA Region 11 Education Committee Co-Chair and Chair, HFMA Southern California Chapter President-elect. Additionally, He served as President of Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) Southern California Chapter with over 2,400 members, Chair of the HIMSS National Chapters Task Force, on HIMSS National Davies Committee on the use of HIT and EHRs, and co-chair of the CIO Forum. He received HFMA Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Medal of Honor, and Yerger Special Recognition awards. He received the prestigious 2012 HIMSS National Chapter Leader of the Year Award. Under his presidency, HIMSS Southern California chapter received HIMSS National Chapter of the Year award in 2011. He is a frequent speaker/moderator at international, national and other professional conferences addressing health IT and healthcare finance challenge facing our society. He provides training and consultancy for healthcare leaders in the US and around the world.
